Chewing gum is good but it sticks… Find out how to easily remove chewing gum from your favorite garment!
To remove chewing gum stuck on a garment or fabric, only one method: the ice cube!
This proven method (recommended by the most influential grandmothers) will work on any fabric: curtains, clothes, tablecloth, armchairs, sofas…
However, be careful with fragile materials (silk, cashmere, etc.) because you will need to be patient
How to remove chewing gum with an ice cube?
Put on a glove. This will allow you to apply the ice cube to the piece of gum for several seconds. If you don’t put on a glove and the cold makes you lose patience, the chewing gum will not harden enough and your attempt will fail!
Apply the ice cube to the piece of chewing gum and rub them together until the chewing gum becomes hard.
You can then easily and gently peel off the piece of chewing gum without damaging your fabric.
How to remove chewing gum with an iron?
Another method is to remove chewing gum with your iron.
To do this, simply lay a piece of cardboard or parchment paper under the stained garment. Then pass the iron over the fabric, at the level of the stain.
The contact of heat will detach the piece of chewing gum from the fabric and transfer it to the paper.
What if the chewing gum resists?
If you can’t even scratch the piece of chewing gum, it’s because it hasn’t had time to harden properly. Repeat the operation but leaving the ice cube longer.
If, after removing most of the chewing gum, there is still some left over, here are some tips:
- white vinegar: heat white vinegar. Then soak a cloth in it, then gently rub the chewing gum.
- 90° alcohol: simply soak a paper towel or cloth in alcohol, then rub.
White vinegar and 90° alcohol are formidable stain removers, they can, for example, clean a red wine stain or remove a grass stain from a garment.
Finally, remember to wash the garment, or, failing that, rinse the place where there was the chewing gum.
